Religion can impact a population’s Support and Efficiency Index (SEI) that modifies production from that population segment. Religion also impacts complacency and happiness. Religious agents and leaders have many actions to increase or decrease the religion of a population segment. As a result, outside empires can send religious agents to an area in the attempt to change local complacency to their advantage. This could be to increase a population’s happiness or make them restless for change.

Things to know about religion:

  • A population segment can have multiple religions.
  • A player can change the current religion by using a Change Religion Virtue which is obtained by studying other religions as part of a Mission.
  • Success of Diplomatic actions are modified by religions.
