The way trade goods and resources move between markets.
Every trade route needs a spaceport. It is used in three ways:
- Export: Trade goods can only be sold to another market by exporting them. Payment price and quantity is determined by the game. Resources can also be exported, but in this case the price and quantity of outgoing resources are arranged by the player in advance. The spaceport must be within jump distance to the receiving market.
- Import: Purchasing trade goods and resources for local market from an outside market. Empires must accept all incoming trade goods. The price and quantity of incoming resources are arranged in advance.
- Shipments: One way transfer of resources from one market to another. No pricing or Exocredits are involved. The receiving market does not need a spaceport.
Trade routes can be disrupted by blockades, interdiction or piracy.
Players manage trade routes using the related world-based Market window.
